Over the Moon

A few months ago, Rhys found this cool and creative idea for finding out your baby's gender on a blog we follow called, "love the Schultzes"  Have a browse; they are a very cool couple that do wedding photography together.

As lovers of all things creative, we knew we wanted to do this for Baby Lake. It was a looooooong wait but finally, last Thursday, we had our much anticipated 20 week scan. At the scan we asked the radiographer to write Baby Lake's gender down and seal it in an envelope so that it would be just as much of a mystery to Rhys and I as anyone else. We even asked them to tell us when to look away from the scan so as not to spoil the surprise. Then, we dashed off to a baker with whom we had arranged to "hide" the secret within the cake. On Saturday night, we had our friends around for Baby Lake's first ever party.

After moving back to Auckland, the party was such a wonderful way to gather our friends together and share our joy with them. We had the best time and both feel positively over the moon.

A million thanks to our friend The Amazing Jade Lee for making the video. We know that in the not-so-distant future, he will be a famous filmmaker and we will make many people jealous that we are friends with him. So keep your eyes open for Jade.

  4. that was so UBER cool!!! i'd just recently read about the "baby cakes," i don't remember where, but you guys took it to a whole new level of creative! and of course i'm patting myself on the back for predicting correctly ;)

as for your friend... all i can say is he's got a great future ahead of him in filmmaking. stellar job.

  5. I'm a big fan of girls:) Happiness for you all!! This is the most darling way to learn the gender I've ever seen! Tucking it away for down the road when I get to be a grammy. Blessings.

  6. I LOVE everything about this post. I love that you're having a little girl. I love that you had a cake with pink icing to tell you, and that all your friends were gathered round. And I love, love, love that video. It's so sweet, and I kept thinking that your daughter is going to have fun watching it someday. (What song did Jade use? It was so pretty.)

Now you can settle on some favorite baby girl names!! :)

  7. Thanks everyone for your kind words and wishes. We can't wait to meet our little girl. We would have been happy either way but I am so excited for a girl to dress up all pretty haha.

It will be so fun to show her the video someday when she can understand how excited her Mama and Daddy were to meet her and how many other people love her too. I was saying at the party now we will have to do another party for our next baby so s/he doesn't feel left out haha.

Emily: The song is called "Everybody Knows" By Avalanche City. It's a New Zealand Musician. He also has a very popular song called "Love Love Love." Both are very sweet and can be found on youtube and itunes :)

  8. * Just so you know, I've now listened to "Everybody Knows" and "Love Love Love" about 500,000 times... current inspiration for news articles and web designs.
